The upcoming [2014 Galaxy Community Conference
(GCC2014)](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014 "GCC2014 homepage"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} has [just opened early
registration](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/News/GCC2014RegistrationOpen "GCC2014 registration announcement"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}, and following from our [series announced at the last
meeting](http://blogs.biomedcentral.com/gigablog/2013/04/05/call-for-papers-for-a-special-gcc2013-galaxy-series/ "GCC2013 CfP"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} we are renewing our call for papers for our special
thematic focused series on studies utilizing large-scale datasets and
workflows. For those not part of their large and rapidly growing user
base, [Galaxy](http://usegalaxy.org/ "Galaxy homepage"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} is an open, web-based platform for data intensive
biomedical research allowing users to reproduce and share
analyses. *GigaScience*, with its aims to increase reproducibility and
transparency of research has been utilizing our own [GigaGalaxy
server](http://galaxy.cbiit.cuhk.edu.hk/ "GigaGalaxy server page"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}, enabling the hosting and implementation of Galaxy-based
workflows and methods.

Covering the [themes of the
conference](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014/Program "GCC2014 program"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}, discussion and research is considered highlighting best
practice for local Galaxy installation, management and use, as well as
interesting tools, data sources, or novel uses of Galaxy. Addressing
many of the goals of Galaxy to enable more accessible, reproducible, and
transparent genomic science, submissions can utilize our novel format,
where all of the workflows, tools and supporting data can be hosted and
integrated into accepted papers using independently
citable [DataCite](http://www.datacite.org/ "DataCite homepage"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} DOIs from the journals [GigaGalaxy
server](http://galaxy.cbiit.cuhk.edu.hk/ "GigaGalaxy server page"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} and [GigaDB
database](http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/gigadb.org/ "GigaDB homepage"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}.

To see examples of how this works, [the series has just published its
first
papers](http://www.gigasciencejournal.com/series/Galaxy "Galaxy Series Page"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} associated with the 2013 meeting, and our [recent
blog](http://blogs.biomedcentral.com/gigablog/2014/02/06/rewarding-reproducibility-first-papers-in-our-galaxy-series-utilizing-our-gigagalaxy-platform/ "GigaBlog on GigaGalaxy series and examples"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} goes into detail how we are using this platform to help
visualization and interaction with data, workflows and analyses in our
papers. This topic is particularly timely, with Carly Strasser just
presenting at last weeks [\#publishorperish
workshop](http://icis.ucdavis.edu/?page_id=22){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} at UC Davis last week that workflow and code publishing
is next step beyond data publication
(see [slides](http://www.slideshare.net/carlystrasser/data-publication-at-cdl-for-uc-davis-publish-or-perish "Carly Strasser #publishorperishslides"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}), and the RDA Plenary in Dublin next month having
a [specific working group
session](https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/rdawds-publishing-data-ig/wiki/plenary-3-four-proposed-publishing-data-sessions.html "RDA workflow session"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} covering \"publishing data: workflows\".

All accepted oral presentations from the meeting will be eligible for
consideration in the *GigaScience*series, and working with
the [scientific
committee](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014/Organizers "GCC2014 organisers"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}, peer review will be coordinated, thorough and
timely. [BGI](http://www.genomics.cn/en/index "BGI homepage"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} has been generously covering the open-access
article-processing charges for the journal\'s launch, and this offer
will be extended to all submissions in 2014.

[The
meeting](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014 "GCC2014 homepage"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} is being held at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore
from June 30th until July 2nd 2014, and as with last year we are again
silver [sponsors](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014/SponsorExhibit "GCC2014 homepage sponsor page"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}. This will be the 3rd meeting we have attended, and you
can see our [write
up](http://blogs.biomedcentral.com/gigablog/2013/07/09/usegalaxy-lights-up-northern-skies/ "GCC2013 write-up"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} and [poster](http://dx.doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.713512 "GCC2013 poster"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} we from the previous meeting in Norway, and
the [conference
report](http://genomebiology.com/2012/13/8/318 "Peter Li GB conference report"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} in *Genome Biology* from the [2012
meeting](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2012 "GCC2012"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} in Chicago.

Please contact the [conference
organizers](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014/Organizers "GCC2014 organisers"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} or *GigaScience* editors for further information,
or [submit to the
journal](http://www.gigasciencejournal.com/manuscript "GigaScience submission page"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} or [conference](https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Events/GCC2014/Abstracts "GC2014 abstract submission"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"} mentioning you would like to be considered in the
series. The deadline for consideration for oral presentations to the
meeting 4th April, but later submissions for poster presentations
(deadline 25th April) are also considered. This series will remain open
in a similar manner to our [Genomic Standards Consortium and beyond:
best practice in genomics research
series](http://www.gigasciencejournal.com/series/GSC_and_beyond "GSC and Beyond series"){target="_blank"
rel="noopener"}, so related work utilizing Galaxy can also be continued
to be added to the virtual issue.
